The project required that the channel configuration be enlarge and realigned for much larger flows and the redesign of the open, concrete-lined channel, new closed culvert, and several new street culverts, which required partial closure to maintain traffic. This was especially critical at Mesa Street, a major arterial roadway, which could not be closed during the construction phase. The enlargement of the channel required that the side walls be located adjacent and close to existing structures and buildings. In some cases, this required the use of temporary shoring during the construction phase so as not to damage or otherwise effect existing structures.
