THE EL PASO HIGH SCHOOL STADIUM was designed in conjunction with the design of the El Paso High School campus in 1917, by the famed southwest architectural firm of Trost and Trost. Robert Navarro and Associates worked with the firm of Garland and Hilles Architects, to totally rehabilitate the cast-in-place concrete stadium. The stadium is situated directly south, and below the high school building, which sits on a hill behind the stadium presenting a dramatic view from below. The stadium seating comprises a horseshoe configuration, with cast-in-place concrete bleachers bearing directly on grade. The original cast-in-place concrete construction had deteriorated severely, settling, cracking, and spalling across most of the footprint of the stadium seating area. The repair consisted of removal of the existing deteriorated concrete, regarding and stabilizing the sloping base, and replacement the concrete stadium to the original configuration with sound concrete. The completed stadium has endured continuous use to the present with little deterioration to the concrete seating.
